My Story

Hi, I'm Danelle Miller — founder of Metaphysics Made Modern, where I translate ancient Chinese metaphysics into practical tools for contemporary life. But I'll be honest… I didn't discover this work out of curiosity. I found it out of sheer desperation.

My path actually started with a literal fight for my life. I spent years as a professional adventure racer, trekking hundreds of miles through some of the harshest terrain on Earth with everything I needed on my back. Then, while competing in the jungles of Fiji, I contracted a flesh-eating bacterial infection, slipped into a coma, and was saved in part by a local shaman who prayed over me through the night while my teammates feared the worst. I survived — and that near-death experience changed everything.

Years later came a different kind of fight. I was pouring everything — my time, energy, and finances — into a business that just wouldn't take off. My husband and I had taken out a large line of credit against our home to fund it. Then the 2008 financial crisis hit. The bank was preparing to call in the loan, and bankruptcy loomed. We were on the brink of losing everything — our business, our home, our future. Hard work never scared me, but this was different. No matter how hard I pushed, nothing budged.

Honestly, as a last resort I turned to these ancient systems. What I discovered wasn't mysticism — it was a sophisticated, deeply practical framework for pattern recognition, strategy, and decision-making.

Skeptical but open, I devoured everything I could find and made significant changes to both my home and office. I cleared energetic blockages, shifted my space, and aligned my timing — and within a few months, the business was booming. The loan was paid. And I was completely hooked.

Since then, I've spent the past two decades learning everything I could — not just Feng Shui, but BaZi, Ze Ri Date Selection, Flying Stars, Interior Design, Meditation, Energy Healing, and more. Today I work across three pillars: Feng Shui & Flying Stars to optimize your space, BaZi to read your personal energy blueprint, and Date Selection to time major life events like launches, moves, and real estate closings.

My mission is modern translation. These systems were built thousands of years ago when societies looked very different — my job isn't to alter the principles, it's to adapt them for the society we live in today. An energy pattern the classics labeled an "unlucky" solitary star, for example, is often exactly what a modern software developer, writer, or deep-focus researcher needs to thrive. The energy stays the same — the world we live in changed.

Above all, I want people to understand that a metaphysical chart isn't fate — it's a map. The traditional view was about avoiding bad luck. The modern application is about maximizing your tendencies, your potential, and your power to choose.

Today, after decades in Los Angeles, I live in Chicago with my husband and our beloved kitties. My days are filled with teaching, learning, yoga, meditation, quiet walks by the lake — and my greatest passion: empowering others to understand who they truly are, work with the unseen energies around them, and use both to transform their lives.
